Re: My PS3 is IMMORTAL

If you're getting a lot of corrupted files, then maybe you should replace the hard drive. It can work wonders. You just have to format the drive and make sure that the is is installed on it.

My 80GB is still going strong as well. I've logged a lot of game play hrs and blu ray movie hours on it over the years. I bought a 60 at launch and sold it the following spring and picked up the 80GB a few months later. I have no doubt it will still be runing strong when I get the PS4 ( just as my first PS and PS2 still are ) and it will seem quite odd to pack it up and never use it again at some point. Maybe not right at the PS4 launch if there are still PS3 games I want to play but that day will come at some point as it has w/ all my previous consoles.

My first PS3 was CECHP01 early December 2008. So that's 4+ years of use. 4 of those years it had daily use by my family, for the most part, that's LOTS of hours for a growing family.

We got a SLIM later. I kept that in my office. Oct 30, 2012 we got a SuperSlim and that one is now in my office, the SLIM is now the main family console and the CECHP01 is in the master bedroom.

Just the other day I took the CECHP01 apart for the first time, cleaned out all the horrid dust bunnies and re-did the thermal paste.

What a difference! Not as loud or hot. And very shiny and happy. It looks brand new, except for that nasty scratch on the cover. Works. Sometime I'll probably replace the HDD. I guess it could flip out on me at any point, but I won't dwell on that thought. :catvery-happy:

So, my PS3 turned 7 years old today.

When I say that, I mean that is how long I have owned it. I bought it used at Gamestop 7 years ago. It was a refurbished display model. 80gb. I have never had a single problem with it. And I am what some might call a core gamer. My level on PSN is 15. More than 400 hours logged on Oblivion and Skyrim alone. So, I suppose it begs the question: How old is your PS3?

One kind of obvious thing I have to point out is that you couldn't have had your 80 GB PlayStation for seven years. The 80 GB model was first released in 2008. 2007 is when we saw the 40 GB model, and the PlayStation 3 first launched in November 2006 with the 20 GB and 60 GB versions.

My first PlayStation 3, a 60 GB model, lasted me three years. It was bought in early 2007 and it died on me in early 2010. Since then I've been using a 120 GB Slim. Both this and the 60 GB versions were brand-new. I've had the 120 GB also for approximately three years and it's still working fine.

Yes!  I was reading this thread and surprised to notice you were the first to point this out.  No PS3s are 7 years old yet, and there was no 80 GB at launch, so it's extra impossible :smileytongue:.

I got my first PS3 (40GB) in April 2008 and got a super slim in Sept. or Oct. last year.  The 40GB was still working, but louder than usual and occassional issues accepting discs.  I was disappointed to learn shortly after I bought my first PS3 that the MGS bundle was coming and would be backwards compatible, but I still got a lot out of it and my PS2 still works, so it wasn't that bad.

Mine is five years old and just recently started to go on me.  Trying to find a reputable place in the San Diego area to reball it...............

In the mean time, bought a new super slim to help ease my pain
