Need Help Choosing Headset for PS4

[ Edited ]
77 replies 978 views Edited Jul 11, 2014

I want to get a headset for the ps4. I'm trying to choose between: skullcandy plyr 1, TB ear force px4, and razer kraken 7.1 (I know the razer is wired but a lot of people are saying its good). I want the headset below 200$ and I don't really want anything wired. (The razer kraken 7.1 is the only exception)

Mod Edit: Updated title and label. Check here for more information. Thanks! --GrainneNessa

Since you don't want anything wired, the PLYR1 is the best console headset on the market, hands down. None of those other headsets even come close. Radio Shack is also selling for $150 instead of $180 retail.

Keep in mind though that wired hesdphones are a different animal all together since you can actually use professional grade headphones to game. You could get into an entry level pair with the Astro Mixamp Pro and a cheap mic for under $180 and it will sound like other setups that list for around $500.

This consists of the following

Superlux HD668b or Samson SR850 headphones
Astro Mixamp Pro
Zalman ZM-Mic1

For about $215, you could do the same setup with the Sennheiser HD518's.

Compared to this, those Razers will sound like they came from a gas station.

I personally have the Wireless Gold headset and absolutely love it. i had two turtle beach headsets that did have a bit better sound quality but honestly the comfort zone on the gold set and the price was well worth it. if i am not mistaken they are on sale for like 75 bucks

I second this. If you really want wireless get the PLYR1. But I highly recommend staying open to wired setups. You can get much better quality with more features than wireless setups of a similar price point.

If you're interested in wired setups, pm me and I can give some recommendations.

By the way, I also need a good tv screen. I'm searching for something around 400$ and want a size like 42 more. Anyone know of a good one I can get?

@jawad_aborshed

The difference between the Superlux and Samson's are minimal and are practically the exact same headphone with the 668b's having a better headband, better cable but is higher impedence. The Samson's are an OEM version and actually use Superlux drivers.

The Astro Mixamp will give you 7.1 Dolby Headphone surround sound, some EQ modes for competitive gaming, single player gaming, media as well as a LAN preset. You also get the ability to mix game volume vs chat volume to your liking as well as the ability to plug in a media player for custom music while you game.

Another nice thing about the Mixamp is you can always upgrade headphones to something even better without wasting money on a new audio system.

What headphones would you guys pick over the Astro A50's if you wanted wired cans to pair with the Astro Mixamp and money wasn't too much of a concern as you want higher quality gaming surround sound?

@Twohothardware

That all depends on what you are looking for. Do you want a highly detailed headphone for the ability to pick up every detail for a competitive experience? Go with something like the Sennheiser HD598's or AKG Q701's or K702's. Keep in mind though that with the AKG's, you will want a second amp since they aren't easy to drive. You could ask around on head-fi about proper amplification.

If you want more of an all round experience, go with the Sony MDR MA900's or Philips Fidelio X1's. The MA900's will be the most comfortable thing you have ever put on your head although I do question the durability of the headband. Another con is that the cable is not detachable. The X1's are very comfortable too though and for an open back headphone, they have really good bass which is almost unheard of. You will want to replace the stock headphone cable though since the one that comes with it is high impedence and won't sound very good through the Mixamp.

If you want detailed gaming reviews on these headphones and others, check out Mad Lust Envys headphone gaming guide. It's easy to find on Google.
