The patent explains that games will come with contactless tags that will be read by your console in much the same way as modern bank cards. When a disc is first used, the disc ID and player ID will be stored on the tag. Every time the disc is used in future, the tag will check if the two ID’s match up and, if not, then the disc won’t work.

My thoughts, if this goes thru I will no longer be a customer/fan/consumer of your business. To arrogantly make this choice although there is no legit confirmation whether or not this is 100% true by Sony. I'm fully aware that this patent is filed but it does raise a very high caution to all PS Fans.  By going through this you are hurting your fans/cunsumers/customers and thus you will lose even more money. The PS Vita didn't sell very well due to the fact that tablets completely taken over the handheld competition. Regardless for us gamers/consumers/fans/customers we need the used game market.  It is our way to share our gaming experience with others rather than alienating us and not bringing us all together. Its not about piracy, its about our consumer rights to make the choices to sell, trade, or give our product purchased from you to someone else. For example, people sell and trade used cars, clothes, and other products. So why can't gamers have that right too? Why try to take that away from us? I want anyone to read the link to the articles I have posted and read the comments section. It should show you who is really behind the idea and who isn't. Most likely a lot of people are not behind this idea.

I hope many of you all share this and see that just because I am one person who doesn't like the idea of this, that one person can be 1,000, 10,000, or even a million people who do not support this. Thus hurting you in your business. Please rethink about your decision.

I believe it's just technology that Sony just wants to have but not use, I mean can you just think of the disaster it would be when your PS4 breaks down and buying another console and your whole library of games are no longer compatible. If they are just going to treat game piracy like PC's do your just better off getting a PC since the games they are alittle cheaper over a console and I think that Sony knows this and they wont even dare themselves to do it

If they did that, people would be very angry... 

I mean, what happens if your PS3 Breaks... 

That means none of your Games, even ones you had just paid for will not work, because you now have a New Console...

If it is true, i'd probably just send all my stuff back to Sony... I mean seriously, thats the worst possible thing they could do...

However, I have got confirmation, Sony is trying to get rid of CD's on the PS3... 

They said not many Stores are carring them, & as a Result they are trying to Didgetalize CD's now... 

Honestly, I would not be suprised if this was True... 

I just think they would cause more harm then good by doing this...

so i herd on ign that the up comeing ps4 software feature in mending a new single game to your psn account. i find it to be stupid as this will effect my future shoping for used games or new games. that mean gamestop won't take my games if i wanted to trade in my games for a new system,game, or accessory for my new up comeing system or ps3 system. why playstation must you make your selfs more idiotic than what you have now currently. i like buying used games as this helps future income or profit on tradeing in games from gamestop or selling my games on craiglist. stick to what you know now and not make ps3 more useless. i rather go exchange my ps3 for a xbox360 then if this actualy happens. i've been a playstation fan and buyer for a long time since i was 10. ps1 was awsome ps2 was sick , ps3 made my  day, and now ps4 **bleep** it up for me by takeing out the used games disks i have ? are you serious? i rather go get my xbox 360 then and play actual indie games which playstation doesn't have better app games for 360 than playstation and their useless selection on psn games. i say no to this up comeing feature in playstation systems. japan can shove it up their **bleep** and have it their i rather stick to what playstation has given me now so far that keeps me happy as a future customer and fan of playstation.

The technology only has been applied for a patent. And Microsoft have been talking about the same technology for about a year now. So they aren't the "swell guys" you want to believe they are.

I know this might be a revelation to you, but the video game industry is a "for profit" industry. They don't exist to bring games to the masse. They are in business to make a profit, and all of those words at the end of a game that are meaningless to you, are the names of people who all worked to put the game into your hands. And when you buy a used game, they don't see a dime. And by rushing headlong to be fleeced by GameStop, you're actually spending MORE MONEY in the long run, not less.

this is what happens when people dont do their due diligence when reading 'news'.
if you bothered to read more aboutnit, youd know that it is simply Sony applying a patent on the technology.
As Captain has mentioned, MS had been talking about it for quite sometime, if not longer than 1year.
this type of thing happens all the time in business. its called 'beating them to the punch'. there is no guarantee that Sony will push for this on their next gen console, but if anyone were to try and use this patent, theyd have to get Sony's permission and pay a licensing fee to use it.

just because gaming news is BUZZING with this, at least for now; when the dust settles, which will be shortly, no one is going to care.
at the moment this is nothing but news sites trying to get more views on their webpage so they can get more money for themselves.
controversey sells, and sells big.

no one WILL EVER know the outcome of this until the very last minute. and Sony has previously stated they have no interest in stifling the used game market.
so think of it as where they bought the technology from the inventor, so that Sony can make some money off of this in the future. because as it stands, Sony could use all the help they can get as the company overall is on a 2-3 year loosing streak. And yet the Playstwtion brand is having the best 2 years since. Its just not enough to keep the entire multi-billion corporation in the black.
