Yes, perhaps, but we don't have any idea what it will be like.  The "trend" is that the system is getting rounder, so that would not work if it continues.

It's confirmed that the PS4 will not be backwards compatible but neither will the new xbox

That's the best continuation of an idea ever. I did that with my PS2 (fat) and my PS3 (also fat [my consoles need to lose some weight]) and boom! Perfect Backwards compatibility

Personally that option wouldn't work for me, not enough room in my entertainment center for a 2nd system no matter how I stack them .

I think that would be a really bad decision.  I think it would look weird with or especially without a Vita in it.  It would also be an additional cost for something a lot of people wouldn't use.
