One of the reasons why the browser is as bad as it is because the OS actually is using 50mb for a footprint (for the ram), this includes the browser, the cache for the browser then utilizes the rest of the 256mb of the ram (aka ~200mb). It's lucky enough to even run a video without killing itself.

The HTML5 updated version of the browser went to the Vita but not the PS3 one, it hasn't been updated in a long time.

Also, it's only using the CPU for everything, especially the rendering processes, no GPU at all.

The PS4 is obviously going to have a much better web browser since they showed in that one video you can snap between apps (aka, utilization similar to the Vita, it's the reason why the OS footprint is only 1gb) if you plan on getting that console that is your best bet.

My question has been: if the browser integration into the OS is part of the problem, why not release an optional standalone version of the browser?
