Which PlayStation console do you think had the biggest improvement?

Given the PS1, PS2, PS3, and the PS4:

Personally, which do you left the largest mark on the gaming world?  Taken not only graphics into account, but features and capabilities as well.

I myself would have to go with the PS3 on this one.  What do you guys think?

Graphically speaking, here's an interesting video that does a pretty good comparision

The Ps3 in many ways hurt Sony more than it helped, and got worse versions of multiplatform games due to the difficulties of the CELL. The OS had issues because of the limited, and split ram. It really wasn't a smartly designed system, and made development difficult for developers.

PS2 was and still is the most successful console ever, and the Ps3 didn't push Blu-Ray forward as much as the PS2 pushed DVD.

PS2 should easily win, but I truly believe the PS4 has a chance to be the best console ever.

So far it would be PS3, but the PS4 has the potential to surpass it, just not right away at launch.

Ask me this question again in a year.  Pretty sure the answer will be the PS4.

Tossup between the first and second PS for me.  Still, I'm going with the PS2!

-my first DVD player

-never broke down for me

-network adapter that stole my childhood with FFXI

-great design for it's day

Even though I don't own it, I have to say 3, that bluray drive must of been a massive advantage, disc swamping in mass effect 3 was a nightmare on the 360 version, you had to keep going back to disc 1 almost every other mission x.x

Well... obviously not the PS4 since it's not out yet.

However, the PS3 seems to be the "word around here" and I couldn't disagree more and does leave me to wonder what kind of people I hang around with on here. Smiley Tongue

When you are talking about "largest mark on the gaming world", there is no other system to turn to than the PSOne. The PSOne is the system that successfully brought CD-based gameplay to the home console market. That opened up the doorway to all consecutive consoles to be disc-based ever since. You could call it the "natural evolution" of things... but had Nintendo had it's way and they were a success with the N64, we could still be playing on cartridges today - but far more advanced ones. I suppose you could say we do (memory sticks), but I digress.

Taking the disc-based technology out of the picture for a moment - the PSOne left it's mark by being the system that stemmed (or made successful) almost all of the major franchises we enjoy today, or at least the franchises that have left the most impact on the industry. Grand Theft Auto, Tomb Raider, Crash Bandicoot, Need for Speed, Metal Gear Solid, Resident Evil, Gran Turismo, Tekken, etc, etc. The PSOne also brought upon the industry the Dual Shock controller, and the iconic design we have today that MOST controllers now mimic in some form. Oh yeah... and the PSOne was actually the first multimedia supporting console, because it had support for music discs and it supported memory cards.

So... the PS3, huh?
