Re: Why doesn't the PS3 Slim play PS2 games?

Jan 1, 2012

If you don't like sony so much go buy a freaking Xbox and if you already have an Xbox I feel sorry for you because once your Xbox dies so will your PS3 along with it, just because you probably have them in the same room. Also if you don't like Sony so much stop buying they're products and everything else that they have and do. Go buy stupid Microsoft crap. Sorry Microsoft your computers are awsome just not your... well everything else.

It has an internal PS2 Memory Card feature for downloadable PS2 games off of PSN. So if anybody else doesn't even know what the hell they are talking about they shouldn't even say anything. Sorry for the language but its true. There is the right and truthful answer.

Unfortunately, that is not the correct answer.

The internal PS2 Memory Cards created through Memory Card Utility are a vestigial feature from the old backwards compatible PS3s. On the newer PS3s, they are only useful for making backups of real, physical PS2 memory cards with the optional USB PSOne/PS2 Memory Card adaptor accessory. Downloadable PS2 games store their saves as regular PS3 Saved Data and do not use the internal virtual PS2 Memory Cards.

Now, I definitely stand more by my position, that Sony must make all PS3 systems fully backward compatible. If  had a file of a certain game on my PS2 Memory card, I buy it on PSN, but then, surprise, your save file it's useless. Also, why should I buy someyhing digital, when I already have it physical, so it's truly mine?

They make a PS1/PS2 memory card reader for the PS3 for this specific purpose.......

Logic, who would've thought eh? Oh wait.... No one thinks anymore.

Seems pointless to take away the PS2 internal memory card creator. After all it can be used to backup all your PS2 saves if you have the PS2 memory card USB thing.

Does the card reader allow you to transfer saves to the PS2 classics though? Last I heard, the PS2 classics store their save data like a PS3 game, and don't use the Memory Card Utility.

I own God Hand, a PS2 Classic on PSN, and it does NOT use the internal PS2 memory card, so my game save from my physical disc copy does not work. It saves the game to a folder called "Saved Data Utility (PS2)"  And I do own the Memory Card to PS3 adapter.
