hey all I am replacing thermal compound to avoid YLOD on my 3rd gen 40gb. Do I need to Reflow if my PS still works? It has some buggyness but it still comes up XMB and plays games.
please look at My Thread. Thanx.
Thanks for the guide. have followed it through and thought I had been successful when I plugged in , switched on and got the green light.
seems to be no output through the HDMI port and when I try turning on a controler the 4 lights just blink whether connected by usb or not.
fixed my ps3 (80gb) thanks to gilksy. Used it for a couple of days and everything worked as normal. I've read that this is only a temporary fix though so i decided to trade it into gamestop and i got $140 bucks for it with there deal they have going on and im heading out to buy a new one for like $200. Got to love black friday deals
i was given the gift of ylod last week and am going to attempt this fix
i took the ps3 apart and just wondered if the current pads or paste(whatever it is) on the bigger chips should look like they have melted or burnt in some way as mine still look pretty much brand new???
Got my second ylod. The first time it happened I sent it to Sony and they fixed it for $180. This time they want $120 to fix it or give me a factory refub. unit LOL. So I've cracked it open and am going to do this fix this week. Crazy that they are charging us for a system that has a faulty design. Every tech I talk to says the same thing, "It's just a matter of time before it breaks again." Not being bitter, but ladies and gents please remember this before going to spend $400+ dollars on the PS4. Now to the lab with a heat gun in one hand and a pocket full of dreams in the other.
