"Not Supported Mode" as soon as I turn on PS3

54 replies 806 views Edited Aug 17, 2007
I've had a PS3 since around January and it has worked fine up until now.  It's always been connected to a Samsung DLP HDTV and it's always been connected using a Monster cable of some sort (not really sure about the specifics b/c I'm not too knowledgable about this stuff...i just connected it the way i was told to connect it).  Anyway, I was playing 2 nights ago, turned it off normally, and this morning I went to play again, but as soon as I turned on the PS3 I got a "Not Supported Mode" message on the TV.  I never changed any settings, and I can't try changing them either because I can't see the XMB (that's what the menu is called, right?) to do anything.  I've heard of other people having similar problems with Samsung HDTV's with PS3's and Xbox 360's, but I've never heard of it happening as soon as the system is turned on.  Does anyone know what I can try to do to fix it?  (I checked and none of the cables are unplugged).

from standby, press and hold the power button until you hear a second beep.  this reset the display settings, and may work

Turn it off and restart it again. If that doesn't work hold the power botton for 5 seconds until you hear a beeps. That will reset it.

i've also noticed that sometimes, right when i turn on the tv and before the message comes up (that's about 3 seconds, btw) i can hear the sound of the menu opening, but as soon as the message pops up the sound goes out.  (note that in those 3 seconds before the message there is still no image on the screen).

I'm not sure if this is HDMI Dropout from your TV since I don't know what connection you're using to your TV.

PS3: DecoyMantis (add me!)
