No, you don't need a PS3 to get those PSOne Classics anymore. You can download them directly off the PSN on your PSV. That said, other than Persona 4: The Golden the PSV has no other RPGs (excluding PSOne clsasics), PSO2 has not been confirmed for the West. So, see if the system has the games you'd like to play or refrain from purchasing one; this forum has enough people complaining about it and how it doesn't meet their expectations for games. Something that can be prevented if you know a system doesn't have the games you want and thus you'll pick something else~.

You can check prices of games on the new sony playstation store: https://store.sonyentertainmentnetwork.com/#!/en-u
The FF games are $9.99 each.
For PS+: Absolutely! The service pays for itself very quickly.

Thanks, just one more question.. ill be on my way to the store shortly. I'm going to buy the wifi only version since I have wireless internet at home. How much will it cost me to all together to buy final fantasy 7-8-9? That way I know how much to spend on the PS market cards. Also is PlayStation plus worth investing in?
i dont know about final fantasy but i would strongly recommend you get a 32gb memory card and playstation plus is totally worth it.

I totally agree with witchertn. If you have the money on hand investing in a large 32 memory card is definitely worth it. I am not a bug rpg player, but no you don't need a ps3 to buy psn games.
In my opinion if you have a large memory card buying PS plus is worth it, they recently added more to the vita, so do a search and check it out, there is probably a forum on it. lol

I believe PSOne games range from about 300MB to 750MB in size (I believe there are even a couple that exceed 1GB), so a large memory card is going to suit you well, particularly if you invest in PS+.
You are a week late for a big FF freebie from PS+... Final Fantasy Tactics: War of the Lions (PSP) was free until last week's update with PS+. Like other FF titles, it is now also $9.99.

The only type of games I'm interested in are rpg's. I know phantasy star online is coming but what about final fantasy 7-8-9 for ps1? I've heard you need a PlayStation 3 to access these games on vita. If that's true then I may pass. Can someone shed some light on what is actually available from the ps1 rpg list via the market?
based on the info that you have given me I dont think that vita is a good fit for you . we dont have a release date for phantasy star online in the us at the moment . if you just want to play ps1 games then I would recommend a ps3. if you want to want to play ps1 game on the go then a psp or a psp go might be a better fit for you .
my golden rule of console purchase is to have 5 must have games that interest you . if you are still interested in the vita then I would say that you should pick persona 4 the golden . that game is a little slow in the beginning but it is well worth it . The game also has a universal acclaim metascore of 94 out of 100! other notable rpg for the vita include disgea 3 and Ragnarok odyssey . Looking small amount at the games I list you might think that the vita rpg library is a little scarce but you should also factor in the psps huge rpg catalog .Here is very detailed list (pics , prices, compatibility , whither or not you need a ps3, etc) of psps rpg that you can purchase on your vita . http://www.neogaf.com/forum/showthread.php?t=46455
should you purchase a vita would you mind doing the whole referral thing with me ? most of the game that Listed are on the psn so I figure that it would be advantageous if we both got 20 buck to spend on whatever we like on the store . final fantasy 7-8-9 will run 30 in total. you should look in to have a memory card that is larger than 4 gb . Ps plus is a great investment if you have both the ps3 and the vita but seeing as you are only interested in rpg then it may not be for you. release that are strictly rpg may be far and few inbetween
