Home Developers, Please Update Past Active Items.

[ Edited ]
41 replies 722 views Edited Dec 15, 2012

Hey. For the past few months, items have been arriving that take up less furniture slots. A good example is the new musical Christmas box. It plays 5 songs and only uses 4( or 5, I forgot) slots of furniture space. So I have a very reasonable question: Will our mighty Home Lords go back and update/patch older active items, and decrease their furniture limit?

*edit*

Miss_Ann_Thrope gave a splendid idea. I will try to make a fair and reasonable list of current active items that the Home Staff or current third party developers could go back and re-code to reduce the furniture slots needed for them. If this works out well enough, this would make for a great stickied thread. We'll see how it turns out. Please, for anyone out there who has suggestions, comment in this thread with some active items please. I will put them in my first post here and give credit to those who give some assistance.
Thank you.

I am currently making my list. It would be a lot of help for me if those of you could post some active rewards. I am looking into purchasable items currently, but I will get to rewards shortly.

This is a list, and I am trying to sort things out. Will need some time. I do not think the Home staff needs to go back and re-code every single item, but I would imagine they would at least consider some of the popular, useful items, like; games, musical furniture, active items that give rewards.. Items highlighted in purple are these items (I will not highlight items from past developers who are no more). Games, musical items and reward based items. Developers will be highlighter in bold, black text. Developer's items are scrunched together within many tabs, so developers will be listed next to items if they aren't Sony Computer Entertainment.

Before my list below, I would like to state one thing: I think it's only fair to have an update on past active items. I don't know why developers were stuck with the 22 furniture slot option, but I guess people got better at coding since '08, and the beginning of Home itself. I think this would be a fair compromise, cause I'm sure the Home staff is aware that people want a higher furniture limit then what we have currently. Spaces keep coming out and getting larger with every update, and we need some sort of fair trade off.

Bit of a shame with that response. I don't think the effort would be for nothing. It'd be nice to have pool tables, darts, chess, musical items and other fun items we have purchased in the past to get a fair re-vamp. Seriously, wouldn't it be lovely to have pool tables only take up 5 to 10 item slots?

In another somewhat-related thread concerning furniture item slots, GlassWalls recently answered that it was very unlikely that there would be any increase to the current 100-block memory allocation for both active and static furniture items. While this news is disappointing, it was nice to hear from him upfront and put to rest any concerns.

I do think agree with the need for readjusting the block requirements of older active items. Clearly, there are a number of items that really don’t need to take 22 slots, especially when similar items exist that take up far less. With GlassWalls’ confirmation in mind, I think revisiting and readjusting the active item requirements would be a fair compromise. It wouldn’t be done overnight, in fact I would expect a slow but gradual process. And of course, it would lie in the purview of each developer (even though Heavy Water for one has been very proactive in this). But it would only be fair, especially for Sony, to at least consider this issue, especially with the growing real estate afforded by new spaces. And the time to do it would be ASAP, while the ratio of active to static items is still quite low.

Why hasn't Lockwood reduced the slot usage of the gift machine yet? They should have done it months ago.

They might not be able to do that with the gift machine. There are certainly others they could do it with. I think Heavy Water and Loot are the two doing a lot of the revisions. Haven't seen a lot of other developers doing it

I believe that it takes time and money to revamp an old item thus not warranting the lost in revenue from the hours of labor to take an old item and make it current.  We all want either more slots or fewer items slots for active items, but is it gonna happen?  I doubt it.  But in case it is possible, maybe a list of items (with the Dev) we would like to see redesigned might be in order, instead of a request to update the older items, lets make a list of items we would like updated and let each Dev weigh in on wheater it can be updated.

Ill tell you now if its nDreams its not gonna happen they still haven't fixed Blueprint Home and is selling more skins.

Since someone already mentioned it, I will put:

This does show how developers either care of their customers and have great customer support, or just looking for money.

I like to have the LKWD telepad use less slots, I have several spaces that have 2 or 3 used and that pretty much takes half of the slots.

I recall a chair (or chairs?) that were for some unknown reason 22 slot active items. People complained and although it took quite some time, the chairs were made inactive and regular one slot items. Therefore I hold hope that past active items could be lowered, at least some of them.

The chairs that were active may have been Rapture item(s).

I saw that thread bump up recently, and already had this in mind. Seeing that thread answered is what made me create this thread. It certainly would be fair, you would think they'd go back with the current knowledge now in how to properly code items and reduce the slot space needed for certain active items (the 8-bit machine is what really comes to mind. 3 songs, small item in size, yet 22 slots used).

Re: Will They Ever Update Old Active Items?

Putting together a list of active items deemed eligible for possible re-adjustment is a fantastic idea. Whether Melpoe does this here and sticky it or its done on another thread, I’ll be more than happy to add to the list. That way this can be a one-stop shop for developers to look and decide if they want to go forward with this initiative.

Bear in mind quite a few active items are seasonal items. So past active items for Halloween and the Holidays such as the musical Santa, Mariachi skeletons, and snowflake tossing snowman statue, can probably be put on the back burner for next year.
And there may be some items from developers that have since abandoned Home (EA comes to mind), so its probably not possible for them to review their items as those ships have sailed. We should add them anyway IMHO.

Starting this evening, I will check my inventory and comprise a list of items to add.
