Another Playstation Network Security breach?

24 replies 806 views Edited Dec 10, 2013

Over a week and a half ago I woke up to around $140 in PSN Wallet being charged to my credit card from the Playstation store, and then being used to buy Fifa points, and a season pass to Fifa. After talking to a live rep, I was told I would receive a refund within four days. (Which I have still yet to receive)

I called back a five days later and talked to another rep about the status of said refund, and she told me it should be processed soon™. She then stated that because of the amount of people logging on the PSN and making payments the system got overloaded and accidentally charged other peoples credit cards. I was pretty timid at that point, and just decided to hang up.

Another four days went by and I still did not have my money back, and had bills coming up right around the corner, its my money and I need it now. I then called up once more and talked to another representative. She told me payment will be received soon. I immediately asked for a supervisor. After a half an hour of waiting I was transferred.

Round four had begun. I told the supervisor everything I had been told up until this point, and he informed me that there has been an ongoing investigation and that everything that representative two told me was completely false. He then told me he would look into our call and apply disciplinary actions accordingly. He informed me that there has been a lot of such cases recently with people being charged with items they didn't purchase. I asked him how long it will be until my money arrived and he once again said soon™. I asked how he plans to compensate me for something that was not my fault at all, and he informed me that there would be no compensation because my money would be coming soon™ (Soon as in 10 days later and still nothing)

tl;dr Never logged into anywhere besides my PS4 with my PSN account and I somehow got hacked. $140 was charged from my bank account and Sony is beating around a bush to refund it. I was also told its not a secluded case and that there are more cases of hacking.

I called Saturday... they said I would receive an email within 3-5 days.

If they don't email me back I am going to do what you did

Just call them up 1800-345-7669. I called the day it happened and still haven't got my refund yet. And was told multiple times there would be no compensation.

I've already called and they told me they would conclude on my case by tomorrow

If they decline me I'm just going to do a chargeback; I don't care if my Sony account gets banned I have nothing tied to it. It gives me even less of a reason to purchase any Sony products too

I'm in the same boat as you. I got charged with 3 payments of $50. This triggered a cascade of overdraft fees which put me in about $300 worth of debt. I'm going to be very upset if something doesn't happen soon. Honestly, compensation should be necessary for all of the problems this is causing me.

When Sony finally ponies up the money. Go talk to your bank let them know that the charges were a result of fraud and that the merchant that charged the amount that resulted in fees has refunded you your money do to fradulent activity. They should refund those fees. YOu are not resonsible for any money on fraud to include fees.

Definitely another security breach and Sony doesn't seem concerned about it . I would advise everyone to change their PSN password and unlink your funding method.

That's the plan. I was hoping that Sony would refund the $150, so I would have some proof of fraud when I approached the bank, but this process is taking to long. I guess I'll have to talk to them today or tomorrow.
