Re: PSN Connection Issues

Sep 23, 2012

I'm having problems as well. When i sign in i can't view my friends and i can't download anything... and after a while of just sitting there staring at my screen some type of "error" occurs and it signs me out no longer being able to get back in unless i turn off my computar and turn it back on. This happen right after the update, i never changed the setting on my ps3 console. So now i am stuck with an expensive piece of crap....

The thing is, it's not just PS3 it's Vita too. Yet Netflix  in HD works fine on both, when I test connection on both i get 15 to 17 Mbps so yeah the connection is good, net flix works flawlessly, therefore it's not a modem, PS3 , router or any of the above issues. It's PSN game related server issue on their end. Pretty easy to see, By the way I'm a network specialist professional I'm pretty familar with these things. I don't think it's a firmware issue because it would have to be both firmwares PS3 and Vita and thats unlikely unless Sony royally screwed up. If its bad network code added to the new firmware again unlikely. Though I did get new firmware on both about the same time. I still think it's a server side issue. From my experience.

AzaelAkai, are you using wired or wireless connection from your PS3 to your router? If you test with wired connection, are you able to connect and use the PlayStation Network successfully?

Thanks guys, I'm just going to accept that it's on Sony's end. Kinda wish I'd not driven myself crazy checking and rebooting everything countless times before coming on the forums lol.

Thanks everyone.

Looks like we are just going to have to live with it for now, I'm glad I never paid for PSN + and most of my multi player is XBL and for a good reason. I sure Wii U has better  servers than Sony.

I'm not sure if this helps, but... I can assure you, I have XFinity, & have simular issues as well, however mine is only lag related, so I get where theres an issue, I can understand that, but I also say it's gotta be System File Restore, because i've used it before, & it does fix things like that, which are lag issues, both PSN & PS3 ones, but i've also noticed that it took like 5 times to get the PS3 to actually System File Restore Correctly, anotherwards if it doesn't work the first time, try again, if after like 6 times, it's obvious that it's not the issue..

My only problem with System File Restore is that, if even 1 File is corupted on your PS3, you could be Risking a 7 hr ReFormat which would wipe your PS3 clean... This worries me, everytime I have to check the System File Restore Option...

It takes litterally half a Day to reset my PS3 back up, because of this... I am way too worried about this to actually go, & do a System File Restore... I have like 70 Games, plus ones I have off the PSN, ReInstalling them takes so long, i'd rather just wait for an Update off the PSN, if that makes sense...

Anyone agree?

You shouldn't need to reformat if there's a corrupted file on your hard drive. I'm not sure why you need to use Restore File System five times for it to work correctly. Are you referring to the "corrupted data has been found" message that always appears after starting Restore File System? It will always appear even if you have no corrupted data, so I think that's lazy programming on Sony's part.

Sometimes people have failing hard drives where Restore File System never completes. It's a good idea to backup your data regularly to avoid being stranded if your hard drive fails.

I got a PS3 Formated wrong from Sony, they even verified that over the Phone... The HDD, I dunno if I installed it correctly, because i'm not an Expert in Hardware, I only know a few things about Sofware... Basically, I just took out my HDD for the Western Didgetal, & Put my new one in... It automatically Reformated it for me, PS3 Booted up perfectly fine... But before I did this Process, I noticed the System was way too slow, like slower then a Turtle, I mean even the Cinematic Video of a Disc. Game which was Offline at the time, was lagging badly...

I used the System File Restore a few times before, & after I installed the new HDD, after like 5 Atempts the PS3 ran like it was Fresh out of the Factory, brand new... But I wanna say 3 of the System File Restore Attempts that I did while undergoing this Process caused the PS3 to find a Corupt File on there, which then suggested I Reformat my PS3, & while this message was up, I did not have an Option to Cancel my ReFormating Process... The Warning that it States before you go through with the System File Restore, I think this is what it meant...  Oh, just to add to a Coment you mentioned? When this happened, I was not given a choice, it made my PS3 ReFormat...

Btw, the 7 hr Process that it takes, is actually less then 7 hrs long, it's like just over 6 hrs, I dunno, but the rest of the Process like installing Games, & such, that part takes the rest of the time, which is why I said like half a day, oO

I'd love to know how an HDD with no Data on it at all, as in off your PS3 Scree, nothing Installed, scept the PS3 it's self... & yet it still manages to find something corupt on it, lOl...

You say could be that the HDD is a Bad Drive? After like 5 Attempts, it ran like brand New, the fact it actually ran like Brand New afterwards, clarifies that it's not a bad HDD...

with like 70 Games on it, & all those Repeated Updates I get, I have a lot of Updates over time, but I also use HOME Frequently...

Now my PS3 is starting to slow down again... & I dunno whats causing it... I just know that Files above 300 MB off the HDD lag, & everything else lags, except Video, & music.... But that has never laggged before... However the Browser it's self lags like crap, which is a first for me...

New PS3, new HDD, both supposedly brand new fresh out of the Factory, & yet lag issues from the start...

Fixed the Issues, & now only a few months, & it's already got the Lag right back...

My old PS3 same model lasted like 6 Years without any Problems at all, ran like brand new for that long, before being killed by a simple Network issue... oO

I dunno about anyone else? But to me, I can't keep affording these Repairs at the Price my PS3 is costing me... Especially when i'm not the one causing them, especially when it's the Updates causing the Break Downs, :smileysad:

If Sony is going to make the PS3 a Problematic Console like this into an even more problematic Console, their going to have to start fixing my PS3 for Free for now on, cause if not, I can always find someone else to Sell me a less Problematic Console...

The Lag, the Crashes, & the Problematic Network is I think where Sony's Support Line Fails the most, or Team Fails, which ever ya wanna put it... Their Consoles are, or at least mine is to me like a Beast right now, compared to anything else on the Market, that is, but as far as this goes however, I wanna say I dunno how well the 360 is holding up, but the Wii is nearly Problematicless, if thats even a word... It has no problems what so ever, from as far as I know...

Sony seems to fix what they can, & then just letts the rest of the Problems build up, becoming bigger, & worst Problems, ultimately causing your PS3 to break, without any Future Updates to fix those Problems, once their there, they never go away... Thats whats up, oO

It's clear you're upset with your system, but it's hard to follow your writing. Let's slow down.

When you choose the Restore File System option in Safe Mode, it will always show you a warning that corrupted data has been found even if there is no corrupted data. That's why I tell people to ignore the warning. After the warning, the disk check starts.

Be careful when handling hard drives. They are very sensitive to static electricity. You don't need to produce a noticeable zap before irreversible damage to the drive occurs. Never touch the green circuit board of the drive with your fingers. Always handle the drive by the edges. Make sure your drive is pushed all the way into the system.

If you have problems with the system running slowly, make sure all the vents are clear of dust. Go into Safe Mode and use both the Restore File System and Rebuild Database options.

If anything I said is unclear, please ask for clarification.

I've been having the same issues.....

My PS3 slim which I have had since Spring 2010 has decided to have network card issues over the last week. At times I can download stuff of PSN with the slightest problem and a demo can take 14-15 minutes which is normal. Other times, whatever I try to d/l will hang and not start to download at all. The best of all is these right here.......... 270,000 minutes to download LittleBigPlanet 2, that is 4500 hours. LOL! I have a 30 mbps connection with Comcast.

I've reformatted my PS3, called Comcast to see if something is up with my connection, contacted Sony this morning, and have tried all kinds of different settings with my wireless router to no avail. I even tried wired and I am still getting terrible download speeds. I even tried my kids PS3 to download a few things and I am getting the same results.

I am to a point right now where I am about to just give up.
