Many games do not come with the traditional paper manual you are perhaps used to, the owners manual for this & many other games are now digital, once the game is inserted into the PS3 the owners manual will show up on the XMB under or next to the actual game.
Split screen should be available to you, check out the manual for further assistance.

The XMB is the on-screen menu you see when the PS3 first boots-up, the one with all the icons.
When you put the disc in does it automatially start?, if it does come out of the game again by quitting the game, then go to where the game appears in your game menu on the XMB, it will show up as a picture of a disc, probably underneath that should be another disc icon titled manual.
By the way there was no need to start a whole new post/Thread about this, this one is serving your purposes just fine, more than one is called apamming.

You could try resetting your PS3's video/audio settings, you can do this by having the TV on your usual channel & the PS3 off with the red light on, then holding down the power/on/off button until you hear 2 beeps, a message will appear on the screen, accpet the settings by hitting "X".

It is possible I am wrong about the digital manual, I'm trying to clarify it for you.
Did you purchase the PSN version or the retail one?
