Re: Who hasn't played Persona?

Essentially it's everything about the game that I feel like I might be against. The review from X-Play was for no special edition that I'm aware of other than one that was released in 2007. I remember talking about the game extensively with someone who picked up a copy in the past. The way the game has been described is that you're set in a school-based environment and then you traverse over to this dungeon with a never-ending boss. With multiple phases to the last boss, I've heard about the game's very challenging finale.

There are various themes and styles of video game. Persona just doesn't seem like it would be the type of game I'd like. There's a chance that I may be wrong, but am I really going to risk losing ten bucks just to see if that's the case? I get the feeling that I'd be better off if I don't proceed.

Okay, I will admit that the boss was kind of long(It had 14 forms!) but it was the most epic final boss figh ever. Can you tell what you do like in a rpg. If it is the story and characters than you will love Persona 3. Also if your worried about the challenge, you can play on a easy mode that also gives you ten items that revive you instantly when you die.

Re: Who hasn't played Persona?

Of course characters and story are very important to me. It's just of what I've seen out of Persona's content it's not the kind of RPG I can see myself getting inspired by. Lunar: Silver Star Story Complete has its own set of anime cut scenes and a brilliant cast of characters that left me wanting more. Persona's tale is about a school boy who ends up being faced with an enemy upon his arrival at a new school. He and the others must face-off against this enemy. That essentially summarizes the story, which to me doesn't sound too enticing. I'm sure there'll be dramatic moments in between, but from the start I'm just not too interested in getting to know this boy or his world of Persona.

Trust me the social link system makes the Persona series 10 times better in characters than most series. The story I can't even give more details about without spoiling it for you. The way you described it is basically like saying ff 7 plot is about an ex solider who joins a rebe force to stop an enemy.

Re: Who hasn't played Persona?

Mainly I've been busy with another game (non-RPG, non-Persona stuff). Still, the summary is what I took away from reading what IGN has posted in their main page description for the game. The way you've described Final Fantasy VII definitely comes across as having a leg up on the Persona game. Former SOLDIER teams up with the rebel alliance to stop an enemy? Sounds like the kind of thing I would spend time on.

The truth of the matter is of course that I have played through Final Fantasy VII when it came out. Back then though, the Internet and sites like IGN weren't really on my radar. We definitely didn't have YouTube for videos. Gaming magazines and television advertisements were the larger part of selling a game to a massive audience. These days video game magazines are dropping like flies and unless you watch a lot of TV on the right station it's not very often that a video game commercial will reflect much on your chances of watching the boob tube.

Ok, than what about the dark hour? It's the hidden 25th hour in the day where water turns to blood, Everything turns green, electronics stop working and people turn into coffins. There are occassions where a person can be found outside a coffin and the shadows come to feed on their mind. There are a few who have a power to defend themselves during the dark hour. These people have the power of the persona. You happen to be one of these people and you have to figre out why the dark hour happens and try to stop it. This is the plot andI did not got deep into it at all. If you are worried about the things you will want to know there will definetly be plenty of them. Just give the game a shot, it was even on the mvp top 100 video gams you should play before you die as number 4!

Re: Who hasn't played Persona?

That list has a bunch of games I haven't played before or some I wouldn't agree with. Formed from the minds of many MVPs, the '100 favorite game list' project definitely wasn't handled by a single person. With that said, we all have our own opinions of what is good and what isn't. I'm afraid to try Persona 3 for I may not like it. Then regrettably I would be out of ten bucks.

The fact that it was formed by seval different people actually gives more of a reason why you should try it out. That just means that serval people think it deserves it's spot as number 4. Plus this is a list made by serval gamers that share a common interest with you. They most likely enjoy many of the things you do. The game is only ten bucks man, the fact that several others are saying it's one of the best games of all time should atleast make you interested in the game. Heck I promise you that you will like it. I know that may not sound much from a stanger but that should show you how confident I am that you will enjoy this game. How could you not be interested in this game? They shoot themselves in the head to summon giant beings to wreak havoc among monsters. It sounds like an interesting concept to me. The plot will surely keep you interested in the game. By the ending you will probably cry although I'm not going to tell you why do to spoilers. The story has invoked so many emotions in serval different people. The social link system also provides the game with more depth. You get to see the internal struggles that the person goes through in their everyday life. You can form this bonds with main characters AND npcs. These bonds can end in real tear jerking moments and they are considered side stories. You can use these bonds to make stronger Personae in your quest to save the world. You can end up caring more for an npc than a man character. Of course the main characters still end up getting development during the story, the social links just give you the option of taking it further. You don't even have to do them at all (although the game would be alot harder). Atlus really does a good job with making  well written characters.

Re: Who hasn't played Persona?

I understand that many people are crazed about certain games. But when it comes to these kind of things, just look at The Elder Scrolls series. I didn't care much for the game, whereas everyone else put it on a pedestal. Just about everyone loves Call of Duty, whereas I'd rather tie it to the front of a speeding train. My opinion of the way Persona 3 comes across is as a mediocre role-playing experience. If I'm not wrong then I'd have wasted time and money on a product that I'm not looking forward to playing. Taking that chance to try and prove otherwise would be a mistake, especially now. With Holiday releases coming up I'll be swamped, even with the likes of the undesirable Call of Duty. :smileywink:
