So for someone who has never really gotten into the series would this be worth the time/money to experience some Silent Hill? Is there any info on any other titles being released on PS3?

I think so. You could also start with the original right now, on the PS3 or PSP (PS1 classic). SH Downpour should come out for PS3 on March 13th, a week after this collection.

Yes, the Silent Hill HD Collection would be a great place to experience some Silent Hill video games. Silent Hill 3 will have new new voice work in the Silent Hill HD Collection (as far as I know) but it’s probably a pain in the neck to try and locate a copy of the PlayStation®2 version of this video game.
Silent Hill is available on the PlayStation® Store for a reasonable price.

so, Amazon and Gamestop both say that the game comes out on the 20th but Best Buy still says the 6th. Hmmm. While it sucks, I wouldn't be surprised to see them push the HD collection back so as not to steal thunder from Downpour... T.T

I'm getting so sick of changing the release data information for these video games.

AAAAAaaaaagh! I hate you Konami! (ok, not really).
Just got the Silent Hill collection and this is a HUGE warning to others on the bench. The game has major lag, missing textures, missing audio, poor audio synching, skips in audio loops, poor lighting, the list goes on and on and on. I was looking forward to this game since I heard about it last year.
I'm getting so sick and tired of companies releasing broken games thinking "oh, herpy derp, we'll just patch it later." Tomm Hulett says that there will be a patch prior to the EU release, but then the EU release was pushed to the 30th of April. I have very little faith that the patch will fix everything. Even Downpour had poor quality issues and that was supposed to be the BIG Silent Hill release.
GET YOUR ACT TOGETHER KONAMI!
Oh, what's that Tomm? You say you saw the quality issues a mile away and are disappointed there wasn't a patch day 1? THEN DON'T RELEASE UNTIL THE QUALITY IS IMPROVED!

update: the patch released today (or was it last night o_O) does nothing. The game is still a shoddy mess and should be avoided like a puppet nurse...

Okay, I added a few more videos to the original post but this is probably the last “update” that I will make to this thread. The Silent Hill HD Collection is out now (available for purchase) and it’s a shame that the PlayStation®3 version seems to need a bunch of patches. I don’t actually have a copy of this version.
With that being said, the original versions of Silent Hill 2 and Silent Hill 3 are probably the better investment here even if you have the other version of the Silent Hill HD Collection. In my honest opinion, the subtle changes to the fog in Silent Hill 2 and the subtle changes to the atmosphere (the rust and blood) in Silent Hill 3 (not to mention its new voice work) do not do justice to these video games at all.

there's nothing subtle about the changes, they butchered the games. --_--
sorry, but my wounds haven't healed yet.

Anyone still playing the games? I just started SH2 this week and it doesn't have any lag so far; I just beat the second boss. I'm curious if anyone is still having lag problems with either game or did they fix it? I don't remember downloading a patch, but it could have been a PS+ thing or I just forgot about doing it when I first started it (I picked it up about a month ago, just didn't play until now).
The voice acting is ok. I really don't like Maria, and Eddie isn't as good as the old one, but James is pretty good, I think.
