If you can play online with other games and not with Starhawk then it is probably your model. I had this same issue with Ghost Recon online several years back. I could only get online using a different modem than my current one but all other games worked fine on my old modem. If that's the case, try borrowing a friends modem.

The error message "#4 00000008 1 358" indicates that the PS3's TCP/IP stack UDP port value that communicates with the Starhawk game servers could not be routed (i.e. packet could not reach its destination) - servers verify this via timeouts.
It is interesting that some are reporting that communication (create and/or join game) will not ever work while the PS3 is connected directly into their router; however, things start working as soon as they move over to wireless. For those that have UPnP compatible routers (whether enabled or not), the PS3's system software uses the following UDP ports when using UPnP protocols to communicate with your router: 3658 (Listed on the Starhawk FAQ) and 49152-49166 (Not listed on the Starhawk FAQ) *** It may be worth testing updating your router's Port Forwarding information with 49152-49166 *** And please let us know if this helped. I sympathize with the frustration you're feeling - but we need to rule out these UDP port numbers if possible - as each router manufacturer implements UPnP differently as the PS3 system software does its STUN server check.
The 1.3 patch identifies a number of network related issues; however, we must decouple baseline UDP connectivity issues between the PS3 and the Starhawk game servers - via the PS3 system software and PS3's TCP/IP network stack.

I receive this error constantly. For diagnostic purposes, I find a server that I can not connect to. I receive the error, then attempt to join the same server over and over again. I will, if I'm persistent enough, join the once "failed to connect" server. I believe this now rules out the blocked port theory. Now for the port forwarding issue, I assume that all online gaming must connect the same way. First logging on to a central server, then forwarding on to the final game server. This process work fine with every other game that I own or have owned. Most being muti-platform. You would think a platform exclusive would have these bugs worked out. I believe this rules out the "buggy router" theory.
Now, I could have this all wrong. I am far from an expert in this area.

Im having this error msg on my cable internet but Not on my dsl. Ive used this cable modem since the private beta w no probs till now. . Charter terhas been out and replaced still same issue. On my ATT Dsl have No issues. The dsl is much slower 6mb vs my 30 mb cable. Both hardwired directly to my ps3. I tweeted Dylan on this and he responded by asking for a pic of my error. I have sent pic repeatedly. With No response. This tells me they have NO clue how to fix this.

I know this is strange. The connection issues were better with the beta. They weren't when it first came out, then Lightbox released a update that made things much better. The only difference between the connection issues from the initial beta release and the full game release is Lightbox identified the issues with the beta....

Still no official word from LBI... depressing to say the least at this point.
It's clear as night and day this game was released prior to completion.
People have paid for this game but can't play?!?!? Tell me there's nothing wrong with that statement.
I miss the SNES era when games shipped bug-free and programmers tested virtually all parameters before sale.
@Maserati-1, thanks for the help but I'm not that technical. I do know, however, that my ports are unrestricted and UPnP is enabled.

I am having the very same issue as you guys! I just picked up the game 2 days ago and I was actually able to play some matches only getting the error here and there. Now its day 3 of having the game and it seems worse, trust me ive tried it all found nothing. The only thing I do find is it seems to be an issue with Charter customers from all the forums ive read. No idea what to do but I really want to play the game!!! Its soo annoying to have to sit there and try 30 times just to connect to a game, co-op doesn't work at all either

Still havinge this issue to date. Have tried everything suggested here, even spoken with my ISP who say "Its not our problem". I have not been able to connect to 1 online game since buying it. Really begining to give me the poos!
Please Sony, fix the problem, or give me a refund!
