Hey Hey, Irres. I did mention that smiling and saying hi thing is hard as hell at that age.
That's the short version of "Practice Practice Practice". If he can just get to the point he can look a girl in the eye and give her a genuine smile and nod of ackowlegement, that's a heckuva start.
Also, I feel the "don't be that guy" advice - for him to just not be a doosh is common sense, not womanly advice.
I would never, ever, give him 'woman' advice. Hearts, flowers, romance, that crap is overrated. MOST GUYS I know that do that very much are the same ones that will stalk you and threaten to cut their wrists if you ever leave them - then they'll beat the snot out of you for not refilling their tea glass.
That's why 'the overly nice guy' scares women, TBH. We're waiting on the smothering and obsessiveness to kick in.

i helped this girl once leaving school, she dropped her books and papers and me being a nice guy, i helped her out. The thing is that she was ugly and dorky looking, the best part was that when i came to help her she backed off letting me pick up everything! and after i gave her stuff she wouldn't stop looking at me... **bleep** please its more likely the sun will become a ball of water than me looking at you the same...
