Starhawk engraved stuff

[ Edited ]

made some SH stuff today in the workshop as I had a bit of free time. Only one i brought home was this and the others are not finished yet. It is mahogany, flash on camera makes it look a lot brighter than it actually is. Currently working on a metal hawk but I don't think that will ever see the light of day. It looks **bleep**

That is cool stabby, now I want to share :smileytongue:

A metal hawk?  I work with metal you have to share even if its in process!  PM me or something if you don't want to post it!

Re: Starhawk engraved stuff

that is very cooI. What types of welding/metal work do you do? have only done spot welding before and that was once but I'm going to get training for it next year so I can get a mechanical job for a year and work  before university.

The plan for the hawk was to make a detailed mould out of polymorph or something (by hand) and then seive some sand and pack it around the polymorpyh in two halves.

Then would take it out of the sand and pour melted aluminium into the new sand mould.

I have never done sand casting before but I've seen it done and I've used the aluminuim melter to pour aluminium into a concrete mould before with my friend, here are the pics. It's for my buddy's project, he got a grant from Massey Ferguson who make tractors to make a full size concrete bench and the triangle is part of the logo.

Re: Starhawk engraved stuff

I do mostly tig/mig welding and typically am either building custom exhaust system, custom frames, bracing frames, or things like custom mounts to put different motors or turbos into cars.

I'm what you would call a "rough metal worker" as most of what i do isn't really for finish but for function :smileywink:

Re: Starhawk engraved stuff

props to both of you. I greatly admire metal workers, it is a real artform.

I have seen so much HALO stuff at stores, I have always wished Warhawk and Starhawk had stuff out there, I think there is a real market for it. I would love to have a little metal hawk paperweight on my desk.

Yup its all about the practice when it comes to welding.

Its a good skill to have and if you get a straight up welding job welders get paid a lot of money :smileyhappy:.
