If you can sneak up to someone, you have a good chance getting a kill with it (the skill that gives you faster reload speed and a bigger clip size are usefull in that regards).
They do deal a lot of damage per bullet compared to other guns; drawback is short range and that you need to be accurate with it. I prefer my SMG; people see me pause with my AR to reload, try to close for a kill and die by a wall of bullets.
