well the mayan and egyptian calendar both end on december 21, 2012 however the mayan's saw it as the end of an era. Basically to the mayan's it was to be "the end of the world as we know it" Could be for the best or for the worst.
Basically they both have the same date because both were good @ astronomy and both knew of the crazy cosmic alignment that actually happens on that day.
Anyway.....my doom bunker, potatoes, and a bubbleshield have all been offered up in this thread so us SH'ers will be fine 
(oh and if you want to know more about the mayan stuff I love talking about it......might not be SH forum material though
