Warhawk is just a better game. It is a lot more fun to play. The game play is what is a lot better in warhawk. You dont have any auto turrets stupid beam and flak turrets shooting automatically and crap being spammed everywhere. Because of all the automatic weapons in starhawk that shoot by themselves is what killed starhawk for me. Nothing should shoot unless it is manned period. It took time and skill to get good at warhawk but in starhawk just about everything was noobified so bad that it just didnt have the fun factor for long that is why i quit playing and went back to warhawk and i am having a blast.
I'm back playing warhawk and yes the air game is much better, but it really has nothing to do with hover. hovering leaves you super vulnerable to other hawks, so if you do hover it has to be quick. I hear what you're saying about the ground game, it's pretty simplistic and no doubt dated. that being said it's a lot of fun, everything on the ground is balanced and deathmatch servers can get crazy fun. I'd give it another try, learning curve is huge, because people have been playing it so long. if anybody is interested in playing I'd be happy to set up a non ranked room and show you the ropes.
You know why some people prefer one game over the other? I'll tell you why... I already said it. It's a preference. Warhawk is a better game to some people. Starhawk is a better game to others.... they are both good games. Both also have issues. Only one games fanbase cries about the other.
It's like the dang Redsox and Yankess between the two. Redsox being Warhawk and Starhawk being the Yankees. Only Redsox fans yell "Yankees s*ck!" there are far less people if at all on the Yankess side saying "Redsox s*ck!"
This discussion is tired. Just my humble, doesn't count for much, two cents.
Thanks for the good post Swift. Remember being a Sargeant/low rank and seeing the General's star above an enemy and thinking; "Crap, better watch out for that guy." There were a ton more youtube vids too. Remember monkeyboi's videos? Dude was annoying, but would make great WH vids with great music and editing. There were many more as well. Heck, I got turned on to some bands I'd never heard of because of WH. The community felt tighter back then too. Maybe it was just the times though? Anyways, I played both games last night and WH is simply more fun (even though I was rusty and did awful, I was rusty in SH too). Of course this is just my opinion, but I know many share it. To me, fun factor is most important and WH wins in this department.
Yes i remember everything. And you're right on all of that. I also want to add that i played Warhawk and Starhawk last night as well. And Warhawk definitely has a better fun factor than Starhawk. I played 2, 45 minute rounds of basin TDM Heavyweight last night. Heres my issue with Starhawk and why it cant compare to Warhawks gameplay. In Starhawk, there is actually alot LESS players playing than Warhawk right now. When you try to find a game to play all you see is heavyweight, groundpounder or lightweight. Noone wants to play without auto flak turrets because they are too scared of hawks. Making it almost impossible to find a classic beta loadout where there is somewhat skill involved. All people want to do is throw down mass turrets and bubble shields to protect themselves from Hawks. The game is so noobed out, any average gamer can be considered "good" in it. Thats not the point here but all someone has to do is fly around their side of the map, hiding behind the turrets. Stealth to your side, try to attack, throw a garbage shield on and then run back to their side. The shield has single handedly ruined this games combat system. combined with AUTOMATIC flak and beam turrets and you have a campers dream game. The skill level is no longer involved at this point and anyone can do this. It made outstanding players like me and desigodfather helpless to do anything in this situation. While players like SCARFACE need this situation to be relevant. I know they made the turrets automatic to try to prevent baserapes like what happens in Warhawk, but all they did was make things WORSE. All they needed to do was add more turrets with more life on them. They also made it TOO hard to switch your game play up throughout a round. If i wanted to go from flying to tanking id have to spend half the round gathering rift just to build a tank spawn. While in Warhawk you could have already jumped right in because its all pre built. I can keep going on and on but these are some of the main reasons why i personally enjoy Warhawk over Starhawk. I think they tried too hard to be different and it turned off most of the Warhawk fan base.
I said this before, only really good pilots prefer Warhawk. Flight may be better, but the ground game in WH is terrible. They run like their marching, they look cartoonish, and it has more noob aim that Starhawk. I don't know what ground player likes WH better.
1200+ hour warhawk general here who got to general BEFORE the 10,000 A2A kill requirement was nerfed to 5,000.
Air Game: Warhawk was better because the hawks were more responsive in both modes, spin to win ruins both games but lightning > flak IMO for dealing with spin to winners. One thing Starhawk got right was removing the hover mode of the hawk. Also WH doesn't have those stupid circles on the screen, I hate on screen indicators
Ground Game: I'm conflicted, I dislike both snap aim and stick aim. However I think snap aim is more exploitable than sticky aim so I'm going to stay neutral on if one system is better, I think both are wrong (manual aim only please) I also liked WH's grenades a lot better....nothing better than hucking a grenade at the OP hovering hawk unloading ordinance on you . Other than that the build and battle and general weapons systems, for me, make the ground game better in Starhawk. (oh and on screen indicators (doritos) for troops is horrible too, especially when hawks can see them for easy A2G OPpwnage)
They both have pros and cons. Overall I felt like WH was harder to learn, but I also joined that community so late that I was the only noob on the servers. I will have to revisit WH to make a fair comparison.
I started playing warhawk in the time period between the starhawk beta and the starhawk release. Like February. I don't get on it much but I can tell you that by far:
WARHAWK IS THE BETTER GAME.
Aye, there's a lot of fun to be had in starhawk but warhawk is better in all aspects. The only thing starhawk has going for it is the build and battle mechanic, which - while making the game tactical - can be really irritating.
And who said the ground game in warhawk is worse than it is in starhawk? Because that's a downright lie. I love the starhawk ground game, it's pretty much all I do and i even made the snap aim guides. But warhawk ground game is superior.
I would say they are equal mechanics wise, as both are very glitchy and don't really feel that natural like the shooting in uncharted is. But warhawk created a much better environment for ground combat. Maps which were small and felt like they were build for skirmishes like Garden Showdown and Grinder <3. Which didn't appear in release on starhawk, and when it did they were somewhat inferior to the warhawk ones. Landscapes felt empty.
The warhawk ground is also a lot more competetive and it attracted a youtube community, also it had fortress so people 1v1d. And sniping is a million times better in WH. So much better to hear a proper gunshot then a puny laser sound -.-
Also warhawk air is superior in every way, so much sleeker, quicker and better weapons. Turrets aren't a problem and airmines are meaty not just LEDs which do no damage
and yes I am a starhawk turned warhawk player, although I don't find that much time for either. I would say buy warhawk if you have friends who play it, I would just die all the time if not for desi, orderofelim, darthnick and bellyranks who taught me how not to die continually. Also if you're a SH player coming to WH
EXPECT TO GET OWNED.
