Re: Week 5 Sales Data Estimates (VG Revised) 5K a week....

Yes, the beta quality of this game is shocking but not really. Uncharted 3 has been doing the same exact thing and many games follow the same suit they just have much better sales. If there were decent fun servers up you would still have this game and I would have bought it and people would be happy and the world would be safe.

This is why advertising matters. Starhawk didn't have many ads, and the ones it did were bad.

I do wish that Sony would get more involved with the marketing of their titles.  I'm in no position to say whether it's just not in their budget or not, but as someone who does work in marketing...I've been pretty surprised this entire gen at their lack of advertising campaigns.

They did do a lot of advertising with Kevin Butler.

Warhawk's in the same boat, but it outsold Starhawk and there were over 70 million PS3s sold in 2011 alone.

Photobucket

Warhawk was on PSN, and it was advertised a lot more.  It was used as demos of motion control with the DS3.

Honestly, with all the dead PS3s I would estimate that Starhawk had about 40 million more unique players to market to. VG estimates about 65 million PS3s out there total. 9 or 10m were there for Warhawk and with less competition. Any way you have it just does not look good.

I think it's also safe to say that the average consumer who bought Warhawk was more happy than the average consumer who bought Starhawk.

That is true.  Butler was a pretty good run.

Definitely was but since their heavy losses they don't seem to care much in new franchises succeeding or dying.
