Hi all, I hope this helps you - it helped me after getting the exact same issue!
The issue isn't necessarily your game - it's your PS3 config. I went into the video setup, and changed the HDMI from 'Limited' to 'Complete' (it's on limited by default), and all my cutscenes now play perfectly, and as a bonus, the game loads MUCH quicker than before! Try it out, it worked for me!!
It's pretty baffling that this issue is still not resolved for so many people. I've spent 5 hours trying to get passed a cutscene in the Science Building that keeps locking up my PS3 (2nd Gen). I've tried every suggestion out there but after 72% completeness and 15 hours of play it looks like the end of the line for me... back to Gamestop this goes.
I JUST purchased the game and the same thing's happening to me. It started with the opening cutscene being pure black. That happened 5x in a row, deleted the 1.03 update, then tried it again and it ran ok. A few graphical glitches. Now I'm at the part where Bill finds his partner Frank and it's all pure black. With update 1.03 or without. Have tried it on multiple tv's, multiple video configs, etc. Oh yeah, and during the cutscene's audio at some point the PS3 beeps and turns itself off. Keep in mind I've played through over 70 ps3 games never having a problem. Still play all games without incidence... Just this one. Walmart doesn't give refunds for open software. What can be done for a refund if they won't fix this issue?
I am having the same "black screen" problem at the part where you have to escape the clickers with Bill and enter the warehouse. I also had the same problem at the next cutscene where you enter the basement. Havn't reached any more cutscenes yet but it isn't looking like a good trend!
The good news is I managed to get passed both black screen's (without seeing the cutscene), by just waiting for the game to come back. Specifically at the warehouse cutscene, I just let the game run as normal (while frantically looking online for what the f*ck was up with the game). It might have taken upto 10 mins for the game to return. At the basement cutscene, I pressed start and went to skip movie. This seems to stall the whole playstation, but again after waiting a bit the game came back. I know these isn't exactly a solution to the problem but at least makes the game somewhat playable in my case.
Also, I'd just like to say I can't believe the game was released with such a serious bug and more ridiculously hasn't been adressed yet (as far as I can see). This is the only game i've ever played that had such a game-breaking problem in it and that's not an award Naughty Dog should want, especially as I will moan about it everytime they are brought up i conversation
