I'm not even finished it yet, but I've never played another game like this. I've only ever played the games for the game play itself. Often skipping cut scenes to get to the "action." Not in this game. I've never been so compelled by the story in a game like I have in The Last of Us. I wanna play the game just to find out what happens next in the story..let alone the amazing game play.
I hope there will be more games like this in the future. Not neccessarily a Last of Us 2 (though I'd 100% buy it), but something along these lines. I did see there is DLC coming in February featuring Ellie. I'll certainly get that.
I'm simply blown away by this game.
The Last of Us is not the best video game that I have ever played although it is a solid title for the PlayStation 3. I’m glad that you enjoyed it. If people don’t normally play video games for their storylines then I can imagine The Last of Us would blow them away. It's only natural.

I wouldn't go as far as to say it's the greatest game I've ever played, although it is admittedly the greatest experience I've had playing a game. It's fairly linear and the gameplay is decent, but not endless fun.
Greatest game I've ever played would hands down be Mass Effect 2. Maybe it's because I'm a sci-fi nut but I can always come back to Mass Effect. With TLOU I've played through it so many times I know which drawer does and doesn't have ammo, enemy spawn points and the easiest way to beat almost every encounter.
For example, the encounter in which you're escaping with Ellie and Tess, right after you climb out of the trap door, just jog the whole way to the right, don't bother crouching or killing them just leg it and they never notice you. Although if you don't want to ruin the moment I advise against using this.
