Will listen mode be needed to get through the game ?

14 replies 283 views Edited May 23, 2013

What I mean is, I want to play this game as Surivival esque as possible. But they would of added the listen mode for a reason ? Or they wouldn't have added it in the first place.

I want to play with it OFF, but I don't want to run into a situation where it is actually NEEDED to not be detected in some places.

What are your thoughts on this, and will you be playing with or without it ??

It can be turned off in the menu, or just don't use the button which is R3.

I'm aware of this.

What I'm saying is, they obviously tested the game and thought it would need a listed mode.

I want to best experience out of the game and I'm not sure wether they means using the listen mode as intended by ND or turning it off.

I don't want to get halfway through and find I'm taking alot of damage and dying alot without listen mode.

How will you play it ?

I think Naughty dog said that listen mode is just a visually representation of what Joel can hear in game, and if you have good surround system or headset the sounds should be enough to figure out where they are in the room

Dude, there's an option to turn it off. Do you think it's going to break the game or something? It wouldn't be optional if it screwed stuff up. You will die a lot without it, that's why they designed listen mode in the first place. It's going to be a hard game without it.

Thanks for the replies.

Sorry if it has been brought up alot, I've been hyped about this game since annoucment, and didn't even know these forums existed.

I think I'll be playing with it off.. DOES anyone know wether this option can be changed mid play-through or if it's a permanent decision from the start ?

My bet is that you can change all those options mid game, well maybe not difficulty because of trophies

I'd guess it works like Uncharted. You can change the difficulty, but it will restart you at your last save and disable trophies.

Well, I'm 100% sure you're going to need it to not get detected in some places. I will be playing with it on, because it just seems like a waste to me to disable it. Plus, it looks pretty cool.

I'll be playing with it off, to show the internet how hardcore I am.
