I don't want a film because I think it would really suck, as most video game - movies are, but if they were to make a film I would want Dylan McDermott to play Joel and Chloe Moretz to play Ellie.
If they did make a movie out of it, I would see it. Though from all of us playing as the characters and knowing the emotions between Ellie and Joel, they would have to make the movie as the same... About 100% to get the same feeling when we played the game.
It can happen. Not many copy rights would come into the picture since Sony owns Naughty Dog and produces movies also along with tons of other departments for filming.
The serious question would be will the film be a low or high budget? A higher budget would let us see some great well-known actors make the cast come alive within the movie along with amazing CGI.
Let's just remember Naughty Dog didn't do much marketing for the video game. Would they want to gamble a couple million and see if they can make huge profit?
I have to be honest here - I think that the reason the story is as compelling as it is is because of the level of involvement we have as a player - we're invested.
This is the future of storytelling - film is the past.
Bring me more like this - not other media derivative of it.
EDIT: my usual font color doesn't fly over here.
