Can melee weapon animations be canceled by bullets?

Sorry if this sounds noobish, but a few games ago I tried to hit someone with the modded 2x4 and when he was shooting me the animation kept getting canceled. I've been playing the game since launch and have never encountered this. Has it always been like this?

Yes. 

 

Some weapons, such as the assault rifle, burst rife, and pistol, are better at doing this than other weapons.

yup, it is most noticeable with the faster firing weapons.

Best large firearm to do this burst rifle without upgrades can get it done best small firearm 9mm no upgrades also can do this.

All purchaseables except machete can interrupt it also probably hardest to stop it with an el diablo.

This is why I never understood why people complained about 2x4's because it can be stopped you can dip behind a door, object backpeedle etc . It is not Op the 2x4 and it never has been .

As the others said, it has been in the game since forever.

The best way to combat the bullets is to circle run towards to enemy and get them like that.

 

@ICANGENERAL  I agree, it's not OP'd at all. I just hate it when I try to back-pedal/go behind cover and they still get me with it. Lag plays a huge part in it.
