Melee Bug

Has anyone else had issues where you go to aim at a guy who is basically at close range and instead of aiming you punch him?

Lately, I've encountered this bug every so often when I'm playing my shotgun ambush class, where I'll pop out to shoot a guy and instead of raising my shotgun I simply punch.

This also sometimes occurs when I try to run or shoot.  Considering melee is an entirely different button not bound anywhere close and I'm not playing by mashing a brick on top of the controller, I'd really like to know WHY this occurs.

Might be a problem with your controller. My old clunky controller would switch equipped items whenever I tried to sprint or mark an enemy or even whenever I moved it too robustly. Some internal error with the wiring and whatnot. Try using a relatively new controller that you know is not damaged at all.

I've tried swapping controllers (I have 3, and only one is more than a few years old).  All 3 have had the same issues randomly occurring in matches.

Its your controller. All of the buttons converge at one spot in the controller. When that little spot starts going bad (typically the foam riser) it can result in any of the buttons to be "pressed" randomly. It usually is affected by the Right Analog stick. I'm going to guess thatyou are particularly hard on the Right stick at a specific angle to get the Square button effect so often.

If you were to take apart your controllers, I bet you would see the little foam piece under the ribbon is flattened out in one area.

On CoD and others with a similar button layout I noticed I was punching the air when all I was trying to do was quickly aim. So I looked it up. I don't have the same problem unfortunately. I have to replace my analog stick inputs or buy a new controller. Luckily on TLoU, pressing R3 accidentally is a good thing. It marks enemies Smiley Happy

I looked up all this stuff a while back and decided to just keep playing TLoU and Uncharted because the R3 thing is not a bad thing on these games.

I have the same problem with my controller, it only seem to triger when I drop my controller though (which I did an excessive amount of times unfortunately).

When that happens, it's a sign that your controller has basically gone bad and nearly bitten the dust. It's still usable, but very irritating to actually want to use. It normally happens when you put excessive force on either the Left or Right Analog Stick.

The best advice I can give you is to simply buy a new controller to avoid the issues. I've had this kind of thing happen to both of my PS3 controllers (one more so than the other) and now I use my PS4 controller to its greatest extent whenever I play my PS3.

Replacing or fixing the foam is an easy fix and costs next to nothing. There are a lot of videos on how to disassemble the controller. But if its not that, you're better off buying a new controller.
