I'm not sure if this has been discussed yet but David Sears (godfather of SOCOM 1 and 2...with the help of Seth Luisi) is now the creative director for the new Rainbow 6 Patriots game. It looks like it's going to be BAD ASS. With David Sears controlling the creative direction of the game it should really be a stand out game. Looking forward to seeing more of it.
I played the Rainbow Six games on the PS3, both of them and still own each of them. Although you may think that they're amazing and things, it wasn't really like that. The gameplay is dope, it can support tactical gameplay elements as it does have those things in it. That's not the problem. The problem was always that the game just had extensive server issues, or some technical downfall to it. Something that was constantly in each of the Rainbow Six games. Funny thing is that Ubisoft games tend to do that across the boards: Prince of Persia, Ghost Recon, etc. So, it seems to be a generic issue that pops up in the games build, not the gameplay.
If they ever fix that, which I doubt, the game may be playable enough to actually reach the potential it has. Game modes are pretty good, the maps are good, and the gun mechanics work pretty good, but the lag issues always make every aspect of that game look like crap. In fact, the only downside to that game is the grenade mechanism, it was simply awful when you used them in the game. Sissy tossed grenades were really what they were called.
Saws this a while back. It looks like crap. Same BS OTS aim cover system garbage. The gaming industry sucks!
I would have to agree, It makes me wonder if David sears still worked for Zipper would Socom4 still be like it it is? All games this generation are crap! how can these devolopers push things on their customers that we didnt ask for and what makes them think we would like it? SMH
while it may look like crap, the story sounds pretty interesting. at least to me. it was in this months game informer. the story sounds plausible to me. it could happen. especially the way this country is going. im not going to spell it all out, anyone who read the article knows.
im not saying its going to be a good game, merely stating that the story sounded interesting to me.
I dunno, I think it looked pretty good. Definitely hating OTS and one button gameplay crap. However, I loved some of the stuff that David was talking about and now realize how much he had to do with many of Socom's early features like clans, weapon selection/customization, commands, community features, etc.
Overall Rainbow 6 doesn't have any true footage out yet, so only time wil tell. I think the thing that impressed me was the realistic moral dilemmas posed in the game. Gave a sense of responsibility and realism untouched by most games (except maybe some pointless stuff in call of duty). I always felt that SOCOM should have such features, like civilians in multiplayer. Which is probably why escort and extraction were always my favorite modes.
Rainbow 6 is nothing like SOCOM, and I will never find it as enthralling as a true socom experience, but with David Sears doing some of the decision making it should be at least a decent game in todays market. My opinion anyways, i guess we will wait and see.
