PS3 consoles with replaced HDDs and stuttering issues

If you have replaced your HDD and you are having stuttering issues, you may have an Advanced Format (4K sector size) HDD.

Check your HDD's specifications (Google is your friend!) to find out. HDDs traditionally used 512 bytes sector size for the last 30 years.

4K HDDs need to be supported by the OS (Windows Vista/7, MacOS X and Linux are 4K-ready, but not the XMB OS/PS3 firmware), because they require to be formatted with a special alignment or else you will have slow read/write speed, hence the stuttering...

hmmmm this might be the cause of the stutters in my gameplay...... 


im on super slim 500gb with factory HDD 

Hitachi Travelstar Z5K500 and according to this review:


the drive has the 4k sector size that u said....... do most HDD like Western Digital and Seagate have this? and how can i format it to 512b? please reply to this
