Re: The Block Mesh Map Thread (Current BMM: #8)

Dec 22, 2012

finally played the lab, i didn't think it was all that bad, it wasn't great but it wasn't terrible, yes the action was more in a concentrated area of the map and being a g-mal user i'd prefer it to be more spread out, but i have yet to find someone glitching on the map :smileyhappy: but overall it's a decent map

Tomorrow (January 8th) is the date that the Lab will finally change, this week we will be getting "a large map with tunnels and rooftops" brought to you by Quality Assuarance Specialist Shawn Henshaw

i will update the OP with ND's official blog post on the change and a video of the map when they become available

that mesh map schedule is just a joke isn't it ???
if no then it will be an awful wast of time, resources, money imo not to mention a huge waste of the LAB playlist - when they could be coming up with good new ideas.
people might not have liked crushing but it was the best use of the lab

(wats the bet those mesh maps will be actual maps at some point and time and might even cost money)

Probably will be another terrible map that favours snipers.

no, it's not a joke, the schedule in the OP are block mesh maps only so it does not include any of the TDM / Plunder / TO variants that are normally between the block mesh map weeks, check for yourself by going to naughtydog.com -> multiplayer (uncharted 3) and entering the calendar on that page

i'm sure that a lot of people would disagree with your statement of BMMs being a waste, from a player stand point it's refreshing to get to play on a new map every other week after constantly having to play on the same maps also from a developers stand point it gives them chances to make a new layout, to try new things or improve / better understand animations with the environment (such as the different types of ziplines in the "spaghetti monster" BMM)  it also gives the community the chance to test the maps thoroughly and report any pros or cons to the developers, so in future projects their designs can be more fit to what their customers would like

i'd much prefer those over cqc maps that strongly favour blindfiring...

im just saying a year of block mesh maps (in which most of the maps are not good) is far too much when they could be using it for new idea LABS like the labs in UC2 - in that respect the crushing lab did something new and different.

also the gap between the end of one mesh and the beginning of another is very short and thus wont leave room for new labs. There has not enough labs like pistols plunder and the like.
one last thing - are we actually going to get any of these labs in custom game or add the good mesh maps to matchmaking,.

it would be awful if we had to pay for these maps - though i wouldnt be surprised if future maps were very similar to these mesh maps and i wouldnt be surprised if we had to pay for them.
ND will end up like activasion if they continue on this path.

but i could be wrong,

the future mesh maps definitely need to be good - the only mesh maps that look good to me is mesh map 3 - it actually looks very good but i havent played it :smileyhappy:, and also 7 just because im a sniper - it looks like a dream for a sniper, again havent played

the lab changes every week (with the exception of over the christmas break) the lab alternates between Block Mesh Maps one week and TO / Plunder / TDM variants the week after like i have already stated, so both BMM and mode variants are given the same time in the lab so i don't get what you mean when you say that it's too short and won't leave room for new labs? also the best mode variants from the lab have already been brought into custom games like hammer pistole TO or riot shield megabomb TDM, etc...

we have no idea at this point if we'll ever be able to play any of the BMMs in custom games, i doubt that it will happen, but if it did, it would be free DLC or they would have to make a new game mode called Block Mesh Maps which then might or might not be paid DLC (probably paid), so if it was only added to custom games then it will be free just like the other mode variants from the lab have

i can see your point on making 20 different maps might be a little overkill but to be frank, they probably didn't require all that much work, since it's completely missing all texture or design within it's walls, it's basically a skeleton of a map, the building blocks :smileywink: if you will, so these really didn't have a major waste factor, it is just creating a better form of testing a map before they spend countless hours polishing it up

anyways my point is id like more time with labs like crushing and plunder/TO etc. a week for one mesh map and one week for puluder pistols - thats like the campaign of COD compared to the canpaign of Skyrim or the likes.
you can play a mesh map all night and get bored of it where as with crushing for example its not limited to a single map and if news ideas are introduced or new type gameplay it takes a while to get a flavour for it.

and if your right about the mesh maps not taking long why are they milking then for a year. if the mesh maps are to last a week they should at least release 2 maps at a time so that you can vote between them instead of playing the same one for a week or better yet have a regular lab like pistols plunder vs block mesh #.

nd did say they would be editing and be adding the best ones into the game a long time back.

it would be evil to charge for the mesh maps, and if they are to use them in future games and charge that would be awful.

it's so they can have people playing the game for longer, keeping them entertained with the game, having them expecting something new every week... when the lab begins to repeat is when people will start to get bored with it and lose interest
