Actually if you read what we posted above you would see that our systems have no issues with other double layered discs. The quality of the discs UC3 is using is very low quality compared to PS3 titles. Uncharted 2's data side is a mirror and Uncharted 3's looks like a puddle of water.  This occurred on every copy GameStop opened for me. Considering there were also 4 copies of Starhawk vouchers, manuals and online passes, I have my doubts about the company who handled packaging and production of disc.

That's not true. All dual-layer discs look like that. I guess you haven't seen discs from games like GOW3, KZ3, R3 etc.

All discs have the same quality, since they are manufactured in the same factory (Austria for Europe).

TL;DR: Don't make conspiracy theories out of thin air.

So Uncharted 2 is not dual layer? Then how come every title you mentioned works flawlessly on my system. I'm not making theories, I'm stating facts. The only disc that doesn't work out of 40 titles looks this way. None of the titles you mentioned have this issue in my personal library. Considering this issue is all over Playstation Europe to the point Sony is stepping in asking for information, don't say I am making stuff up. I am just stating the facts I observed. I have been promoting this game since it was announced, so please don't criticize me.

EDIT TO ADD: Would be nice if people would actually read posts instead of coming to the first thing they object to and beginning to rant.

Poor quality discs is a conspiracy theory not backed up by facts, that's what I am saying.

Every dual-layer disc has the "puddle water" effect that you mentioned, does that mean that they have poor quality?

And on top of that, UC3 is the biggest game ever released (45GB).

ps: Yes, UC2 is single-layer (22GB). Do you have any other dual-layer disc games?

Again: UC2 is not dual-layer.

And yes, it is a hardware issue, since many consoles have trouble reading DL discs. Sony needs to do something, maybe repair your laser lenses free of charge (that would help, right?)

All discs are manufactured to the same quality standards. The puddle water/dual-layer disc/poor quality correlation is not a fact. You can't judge a disc but its' looks, unless you have an electronic microscope (each disc is checked on the factory by special equipment for manufacturing defects)...

These are facts and sorry if you don't like them. I just tried to help and enlighten you on the matter.

Nov 4, 2011

So how come every other dual layered disc is working fine on my system? Yes I was incorrect about UC2, however GOW3, GT5, KILLZONE 3 are all dual layered discs. Sure the puddle effect may be normal, but doesn't explain why this game alone is the only one that doesn't work on my system. ONLY ONE.

Instead of just dismissing the issue to hardware we could actually discuss what is going on. Considering even new systems are having issues like this, it makes it less likely that hardware would be the cause.

Maybe because UC3 is the biggest one (45GB) and that is pushing the laser pickup even more? Can you try the same disc on another console (a friend's one)?

It's impossible that 4 brand new discs could be faulty.

ps: Btw, GT5 is not dual-layer.

ps2: Even Slims are affected by this issue, it's not related to overheating/YLOD which affects only older phat models. I had predicted that this would happen and that's why I suggested a partial install of the MP.

The spinning ring is an entirely different issue (corrupted cache) and can be fixed easily.
