What hardware do you use to record live multiplayer matches at 720p?

Hey

I'm thinking of buying a new laptop (under £600) and an Elgato Gaming Capture Device.

I have no idea what laptop to go for though, so I was wondering what you guys use to record UC3 (720p quality)?

Also how powerful does it need to be to do some post editing? (No effects, just cutting 720p clips together)

Thanks.

My laptop sucks.  It's a Toshiba.  It's not the cheapest one, but it's not the best.  It's a Satellite L755.

Make sure you have ALOT OF RAM on whatever you get, cause you will need it.

You may want to look up or find out about computers that RENDER fast.  Rendering, by far, takes the longest, and is really dependent on the quality of the Laptop or computer you use.

As far as the Elgato.  I've owned it now for about 2 months.  It's FANTASTIC and worth EVERY PENNY.

Cheers!

^Sleaze, does the Elgato use HDMI input, or component cables?

A friend of mine said that Elgato uses HDMI input, but the PS3's HDMI is encrypted so I have to use component for my Hauppauge HD PVR 2 :smileytongue:

Anyways Pete, I use the Hauppage HD PVR 2 and I use a dell laptop for editing and stuff (It's a few years old and dying so I have to get a new one soon :'( )

The laptop was pretty powerful, but it's laggy and slow now :smileysad:

I use my Elgato and my desktop PC. I have a Dell Inspiron One 2320. It's getting kinda slow now, but to upload a 30 minute video to youtube takes about  15 - 20 minutes for me.

I use the Avermedia Dark Crystal HD DVR, but if I had the choice now I would get that awesome looking Elgato. (Got the Dark Crystal back then because it's more slim and "stylish" looking compared to the Hauppauge, looks better next to my PS3. Same reason I would get the Elgato now, it's more compact)

Got a older HP compaq Laptop with dual core and 4GB RAM. It's decent for simple video editing like you want to do.

Seeing as I have a desktop PC, I won't really be able to help you with choosing a laptop, but I'll post my specs up anyways so you can see what I use.

Hauppage HD PVR Gaming Edition with the component cables that came with it.

With that specs below, I can render a 15 minute video in about 10 minutes in SVP12 in 720p.

Guys thanks for your responses. After a few hours of research I discovered this Lenovo laptop:

Lenovo Ideapad Z580 15.6-inch Laptop (Red) - (Intel Core i5 3210M 2.5GHz Processor, 8GB RAM, 1TB HDD, Nvidia GeForce GT 630M 1GB, DVD RW, Windows 8)

http://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B009RGBD2M/ref=noref?ie=UTF8&psc=1&s=computers#productDetails

The specs are amazing for the cost. I'm also going with the Elgato Gaming Capture device, it seems the best one out atm.

Should sort me out for recording and doing simple editing of 720p vids :smileyhappy:

Yeah it's a Sony thing that it doesn't let you record through HDMI to prevent you recording Blu Rays I think.

The Elgato has the capacity to use HDMI but you still have to use component. Elgato ships with the PS3 adaptor.

@munnsy1 Was that statement to me? The laptop does have a HDMI slot.
