It was made official by Suckerpunch that John is dead. That just leaves Evil Cole....
If it were going to be Evil Cole then you couldn't have played anything but hero in inFAMOUS. What happens if you finished as evil in the first game? You gonna play as the Beast in inFAMOUS 2?
Logically, nothing in the game could have an effect on who the Beast turns out to be. Why? Think about what had to happen first.. Cole, a conduit, slowly develops his powers but doesn't use them to become a hero OR evil. He just lives his life out and eventually, the Beast shows up. (Now remember, no time travel has happened at this point in time yet. This should automatically prove that the Beast is someone new.) Cole has super powers but isn't strong enough to destroy this evil creature. So what can he do now? Just give up and die? No... As a last resort he uses a ONE WAY TICKET to the past. (This throws out the multiple time traveling theory of some.) The only thing he can do now is force his younger self to become stronger. He can't let himself know that it's him so he becomes Kessler, a nemesis to Cole.. He puts in to immediate action, the creation of the raysphere and sets Cole up to deliver it somewhere and BAM! Now Cole, the conduit, goes through a rapid acceleration of developing his super powers. Kessler then makes sacrifices like killing Trish and making Zeke betray Cole so that he won't have anything holding him back like it originally did. Now, sometime after the events in the game, the Beast will come along and Cole will be ready to kill him this time. (Note that only one event of time travel has taken place.)
Now, where in here could evil Cole have became the Beast? It can't make sense at all.... Remember that the Beast was around before any of the time traveling happened, meaning that it has to be someone that wasn't effected (affected?) by anything that happened in inFAMOUS.
That is the most logical theory I've heard.
I bet, if you played through as Good Cole, you would be prepared to face the Beast and be ready for him. If you played through as Evil Cole, he would be overwhelmed. Because, remember in the end of inFAMOUS, as a Hero, Cole is wondering about the future, and how to handle his responsibilities. But, if you're evil, Cole doesn't think the Beast exists.
I completely agree. As soon as I saw your post topic, I said to myself, "How the heck could evil Cole be the beast!?" (Note, I hadn't read the other threads about it, so I had no idea people were saying that).
Yeah, but it doesn't make any sense for it to be evil Cole.That would basically mean that somehow, two iterations of Cole exist in the same time. While that *is* what we are seeing in this first game (Kessler and Cole), it at least makes some sense because it's the "future" Cole and the "present day" Cole. And one assumes that the Future Cole incarnation of Kessler ceases to exist once the present day Cole assumes his new role. (In other words, what Cole becomes will *not* be Kessler due to Kesslers actions).
And yeah...there are some logic problems, but that's time travel for ya.
Anyway...back to my point. For the Beast to be Evil Cole, that would mean that two versions (two different branches of reality/time) moved forward. On one branch, Cole is a hero, and on the other, evil. And then in the future, somehow, these two branches of space time come together. I don't think there's anyway for them to pull that off without it seeming ridiculous and stilted.
So, yeah. I vote for the Beast being someone new that we don't know.
